Louvenia Mathison is a product of the St. Louis City School System where she graduated from Soldan High School in 1969. She attended St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley and Columbia College where she majored in business administration.
Council woman Mathison worked in healthcare for 40+ years and was the supervisor in Patient Financial Services specializing in Managed Care Billing for one of the top 10 healthcare facilities in the country.
Council woman Mathison has lived in the Kinloch Park Subdivision of Berkeley since 1983 and was first elected to a four year term as Ward 4 councilperson in April 1992. She is now serving in her sixth term and states “as long as I can contribute to the good of the community I will continue to seek office”. She further states “making sure the neediest residents, our children and senior citizens, are serviced is a major priority for me”.
Councilwoman Mathison is a member and active participant in the National League of Cities (NLC), National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO), Missouri Municipal League, Women in Municipal Government, St. Louis County Municipal League, and Black Elected County Officials.
Councilwoman Mathison has served on the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Advocacy Committee with the NLC since 1998. She served as Secretary for the NBC-LEO, which is the largest group of African American elected officials in the country. She has received her Silver Level Certificate from the NLC Leadership Training Institute, and has served as a judge for the NLC Diversity Awards Breakfast annually since 2004.
Councilwoman Mathison represented the City of Berkeley while attended the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials with the World Conference of Mayors annual conference in Equatorial Guinea, Africa in October 2012.
Councilwoman Mathison was council representative to the Berkeley Home Improvement Committee, St. Louis Airport Community Programs Committee and currently serves as council representative for the Park Board.
Councilwoman Mathison is the most senior member of the Berkeley City Council and brings to the table a wealth of experience, knowledge, and sensitivity to issues as they relate to the citizens of the City of Berkeley.
